North Texas houses wear their masonry in public. A chimney that has dropped a few bricks, a limestone wainscot that never matched the addition, a porch column with open joints — those are the first things a buyer and a hail adjuster notice. Genes Construction handles stonework and mason work as part of the envelope, not as a weekend side job.
We lay and repair stone veneer, brick, outdoor kitchens, and landscape walls that have to live with clay movement and August sun. Color, joint profile, and flashing at the roof and sill are specified before a stone is set. If the right move is to leave the wall alone and only repoint, we will say so.
What we handle
Stone veneer and wainscot
Texas limestone, Austin stone, and manufactured veneer on new elevations and additions. We match existing courses and corners so the 2005 wing does not look like a different house.
Brick repair and repointing
Failed mortar, spalled faces, and storm-hit brick. We cut joints back and repoint with a mix that belongs on this wall — not a gray smear that reads from the street in a year.
Chimneys
Caps, crowns, brick, and the flashing that actually keeps the attic dry. A pretty chimney with a leaking cricket is still a leak. We coordinate with the roof when both are in play.
Outdoor stone
Columns, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, retaining walls, and flagstone landings that meet a concrete patio without a trip lip. Stone and slab can be one schedule.

Read the wall
We look at movement, flashing, and what the existing stone actually is. Samples go on the elevation, not only on a board in the driveway.

Specify the work
Veneer vs. full-bed, mortar color, joint profile, and whether the job is repair or rebuild. Written, so you can compare it to the last quote that just said ‘stone.’

Lay, flash, and clean
Weeps where they belong, flashings at sills and roof, acid-wash only when the stone can take it. The yard is not left looking like a quarry.
Questions we hear first
Can you match the limestone already on the house?
Usually, if the original is still being quarried or a close cousin is available. We dry-lay a sample on the wall in the sun before we order a pallet. Perfect clones of a 20-year-old weathered face are rare; a respectful match is the honest goal.
Is this structural masonry or veneer?
Most DFW houses use anchored veneer over framed walls. We will not pretend a thin stone is a load-bearing wall. If you need a true masonry structure — a chimney rebuild, a garden wall with footing — that is specified separately from a wainscot.
Do you repair brick after hail or a vehicle strike?
Yes. Individual units, corners, and mortar. If the backup wall or flashing failed too, we open it rather than gluing brick onto a wet cavity. Storm work can sit on one claim with the roof.
Can masonry and a new patio be one project?
Yes. Outdoor kitchens, columns, and retaining walls want the slab and the stone sequenced so we are not cutting new concrete to set a footing. See concrete services for the pour.
Will you tuck-point only, without replacing stone?
When the units are sound and the joints are the failure, yes. Repointing is cheaper than a veneer redo and looks better than a smear coat. We will tell you if the wall is past that.
